Doctors of the Ilizarov Center, Alexander Gubin and Konstantin Dyachkov, participated in the SICOT annual meeting. This year the 40th SICOT Orthopaedic World Congress took place in Muscat, Oman, from 4-7 December.
International Society of Orthopaedic Surgery and Traumatology has now evolved into the largest orthopaedic society in the world with thousands of corresponding members from 119 countries speaking over 100 languages. As commented the SICOT President John Dormans, this Congress was a wonderful opportunity for young orthopaedic surgeons to take advantage of a wealth of knowledge in the form of workshops, lectures, free paper sessions, symposia and presentations on recent advancements in orthopaedics.
The program included three plenary lectures from famous surgeons of diverse fields in addition to seminars, symposia, video sessions and workshops. The prestigious SICOT Research Award papers will also be presented and selected.
Delegates from Kurgan presented several free-papers, including topics of “Historical and up to date stimulation of the distraction osteogenesis: research and practice in the Ilizarov Center”, “Complex radiological findings in congenital pseudoarthrosis of the tibia”, etc.
Alexander Gubin was nominated a National Representative from Russia, succeeding Nikolay Zagorodny to exercise the SICOT mission to promote advancement of science and the art of orthopaedics and traumatology at an international level for the improvement of patient care, development of research and education and to facilitate the exchange of professional experience and fellowship.

Dr Juan Conrado Mundo Sierra, Dr Sushan Singh Bhasin and Dr Sanhar Mohan came to the Russian Ilizarov Center to advance their knowledge and skills in application of transosseous osteosynthesis in pediatric and adult trauma and orthopedics, reconstruction and bone infection.
From September 12 to September 14 in Cartagena, Colombia, the Colombian Society of Orthopedics and Traumatology held a conference entitled "Curso de fijacion externa e infecciones" (Course on external fixation and infection).
The conference was attended by specialists of the Ilizarov Center Prof. Gubin A.V., doctor of medical sciences Teplentky M.P., Ph.D. Sudnitsyn A.S.
Thepresentations of Kurgan doctors were devoted to the possibities of the Ilizarov method in solving the problems of traumatology and orthopedics. In particular, prof. doctor of medical sciences Gubin A.V. presented reports on the history of the creation of the Ilizarov method, the possibilities of transosseous osteosynthesis in the treatment of patients with a vertebrological profile, and methods for the correction of chronic pelvic fractures. MD Teplenky M.P. shared with foreign colleagues his experience in the application of the Ilizarov method in the treatment of children with pathology of the pelvis and hip joint, elimination of complex deformities of the bones of the lower limb. Reports of Ph.D. Sudnitsyna A.S. were devoted to the capabilities of the Ilizarov method in the treatment of patients with osteomyelitis of lower limbs, the experience of using the method of transosseous osteosynthesis in conditions of purulent lesions of the foot and ankle joint was separately highlighted.
Along with the presentations, Ph.D. Teplenky M.P. held a master class for foreign colleagues on the formation of pelvic support in patients with congenital dislocation of the hip joint.
