The 2^nd National Symposium on Reconstructive Limb Surgery (II Otwockie Sympozjum Rekonstrukcji Kończyn) took place in Otwock, Poland on the 21-22 of June . The venue -  Gruca Orthopaedic And Trauma Teaching Hospital – was the first place visited by Gavriil Ilizarov during his trip to Poland at the time.

The president of EPOS Pr Jarosław Czubak invited European experts in various spheres of orthopedic surgery to share their experience. Pr Dmitry Popkov (Ilizarov Center, Russia) spoke on treatment of deformities in children with metabolic osteopathies and performed demonstrative surgeries applying hexapodal external fixators associated with flexible intramedullary nailing. Results of application of new techniques in limb lengthening will be included in multicentral research study that has been holding by the Ilizarov Center with colleagues from France, Switzerland, Serbia and USA.

Experimental department of the Ilizarov Center celebrates its 50^th anniversary in 2019. A curious case was presented by veterinarians – a sheep with frostbitten limbs was provided with foot-ankle prostheses. The sheep named Bechamel well recovered after the procedure and gained 6 kilograms. The second stage of treatment will be surgery of osseointegration.

The 14th International Congress on Deformity Correction started in Cairo, Egypt under the aegis of Egyptian Orthopedic Association. The president of EOA Pr Gamal Ahmed Hosny is an old friend of the Ilizarov Center and its Professor Emeritus since 2016.

The conference brought together scientists from Egypt, Switzerland, Ukraine, Malaysia, USA, India, China. Russia was represented by the CEO of the Ilizarov Center Dr Alexander Gubin, who lectured on surgery of the cervical spine, Ilizarov paradigm and organization of work in limb lengthening and reconstruction center.

A doctor from Beijing rehabilitation hospital came to Kurgan for a month-long Ilizarov training course. Dr Jiancheng Zang participates in the exchange program under the recently signed bilateral agreement between the Ilizarov Center and Beijing clinic.

Kurgan Medical Cluster with its anchor - Ilizarov Center - presented its stand on the INNOPROM-2018 exhibition in Yekaterinburg. For the 8^th time the big annual event hosts over 600 leading companies from 105 countries under the aegis of Ministry of Industry and Trade of RF.

The Ilizarov Center demonstrated several projects; some of them were recognized best startups of the year in Russia. Navigation in spinal surgery, bioelectric potentialometer, Ilizarov fixator components with bioactive covering, osseointegration, 3D modeling of joints, vertebrae and cranioimplants were presented by specialists from Kurgan.

A complicated and effective technique of halo-gravity has been successfully applied already in the fifth patient with spinal deformity in the Clinic of spinal pathologies and rare diseases of the Ilizarov Center. The head of the clinic Dr Sergey Ryabykh comments that it concerns a low-aggressive extension of the spine in patients of young age with totally different pathologies; natural mobility of the spine allows partial deformity correction followed by final correction within one surgical session instead of multy-staged surgical treatment.

The artist Yuriy Rysikhin visited the Ilizarov Center Museum where his painting is exhibited. The biggest artistic object of the Museum was created and given as a gift 31 years ago, when the artist had learned about the genius from Siberia. In 1987 Yuriy came to Kurgan and made this symbolic canvas resembling Botticelli’s “Birth of Venus”. The artist told how impressed he was by doctor Ilizarov, his young colleagues, their ability to cure people and “create beauty”. All the persons on the painting had real prototypes and were sketched from life.
