Ilizarov Centre at the Global Spine Congress
The 7th meeting of Global Spine Congress took place on May 2-5, 2018 in Singapore. GSP is a large international congress, which gathers a thousand of neurosurgeons from all over the world. Participants of the congress exchange ideas, discuss state-of-the-art technologies and inventions in spinal surgery.
The Ilizarov Centre was represented by Head of the Clinic of Spinal Pathology and Rare Diseases, Dr.SergeyO.Ryabykh, MD, head of trauma and orthopaedic department No10 Dr.OksanaG.Prudnikova, MD, Dr.EgorFilatov, orthopaedic surgeon, spinal surgeon and head of international department Valentina V.Kamysheva.

We are deeply saddened by the loss of DoctorJean Prevot, our friend and colleague, ex-president of ASAMI France, Visiting Professor of the Ilizarov Centre. Professor Jean Prevot did a lot for spreading the Ilizarov method; he was one of the first who started teaching it in France. ASAMI France was created in 1985 with participation of Professor Jean Prevot; and he was the head of it from 1994 till 1996. Professor Jean Prevotvisited Kurgan Ilizarov Centre many times (in 1986,1988, 1991,1996, 2000). He was a friend and colleague of Professor G.A.Ilizarov. We will never forget this outstanding person, good friend and excellent surgeon.He will be truly missed. Our deepest sympathies go out to his wife, children and grandchildren.

Ilizarov Centre at the International Foot and Ankle Mega Course Arthroscopy, Fore-, Mid- and Hindfoot Surgery
International Foot and Ankle Course took place on April 7-28, 2018 in Munich, Germany. Dr.SergeyLeonchuk, head of trauma and orthopaedic department No6 of the Ilizarov Centre took part in the course. The meeting included lectures and workshops on ankle arthroscopy, minimally invasive endoscopic surgery, surgeries on all parts of the foot and ankle trauma.

Ilizarov Centre at the “2018 AOSpine Advanced Seminar - Long-term effects of spinal surgery for various spine pathologies”
“2018 AOSpine Advanced Seminar - Long-term effects of spinal surgery for various spine pathologies” takes place from May 31 to June 1, 2018 in Moscow.
This two-day course will cover various aspects of spinal surgery with the focus on long-term effects. Interactive lectures, discussions of clinical cases, discussions between lecturers and participants will help to get answers to these and other questions.

Meeting of the International Friendship Club at the Ilizarov Centre
Yet another meeting of the International Friendship Club took place at the Ilizarov Centre on May 16, 2018. The new guest of the Club Dr.TravisLangan, DPM, University of Pittsburgh Medical Center (Pittsburgh, USA) made his presentation at the meeting. He talked about his city, his hospital and showed several clinical cases.

International Day of Trauma and Orthopaedic Surgeon
History of this holiday startswith the profession itself. These doctors were in demand because of wars and conflicts leading to injuries. For a long time traumatology was a part of surgery; and in the XX century it was recognized as independent. Dr.G.A.Ilizarov made a revolution in trauma and orthopaedics by introducing his new method for bone healing in 1951.
More than 12000 patients undergo treatment at the Ilizarov Centre every year. According to statistics, 1,211,837 traumas were registered by state medical institutions of the Ural Federal District in 2017.

Scientific and practical conference “Orthotherapy: interdisciplinary interrelation in clinical orthotics and rehabilitation” gathered about 150 participants in Saint-Petersburg on May 18-19, 2018. The two-day program included 39 reports and 3 lectures on orthotherapy and rehabilitation. There were 9 workshops on application of thermoplastic materials for express-orthotics with participation of doctors of the Ilizarov Centre.
According to the President of the Conference Dr. Alexander V.Gubin this Conference is unique because it united orthopaedic surgeons, rehabilitation professionals, orthotists, neurologists – various specialists who provide medical care to severe patients. In real life these professionals work in different departments; it is important to bring them together in order to achieve successful result.

New issue of the Ilizarov Journal of Clinical and Experimental Orthopaedics (volume 24, No2, 2018) is in preparation
Release of the new issue of the Ilizarov Journal of Clinical and Experimental Orthopaedics will coincide with the Annual Scientific and Practical Conference “Ilizarov Readings”, which is scheduledfor June 14-16, 2018.
The journal starts with a review article on management of juxta- and intra-articular fractures of the lower limbs. There are three articles in the section “Traumatology” and ten publications in the section “Orthopaedics”. Section “Vertebrology” contains articles on cervical spine pathology and lumbar spine degenerative spondylolisthesis. There are two clinical cases on application of carbon implants in spinal surgery and management of periprosthetic fracture of the humerus. The issue concludes with two reviews on modern tendencies in management of spinal herniation using video-endoscopic technique and bone transport for posttraumatic defects of long bones.
Authors and readers are invited; we are looking forward to interesting publications and guarantee that everyone will find useful information and new knowledge in the journal.

Collaboration of the Ilizarov Centre and Rehabilitation hospital affiliated to National Research Center for Rehabilitation, Beijing, China
Bilateral agreement on collaborationwas signed between Rehabilitation hospital affiliated to National Research Center for Rehabilitation, Beijing, China and Russian Ilizarov Scientific Centre on May 28, 2018 in Beijing. The parties agreed on collaboration in the sphere of education and about exchange of experience on rehabilitation of patients. The visit of the Ilizarov Centre delegation was covered by Beijing TV.
Delegation of the Chinese hospital first visited the Ilizarov Centre in 2016 for the “Ilizarov Readings” Conference. One year later, in 2017, delegation of doctors from the Ilizarov Centre participated in the Chinese-Russian-Bangladesh Forum “Ilizarov method and limb restoration”, which took place in Beijing, China. In February 2018 two doctors of the Ilizarov Centre AnatoliySudnitsyn and ArtemReznik spent long time in Beijing sharing experience with their Chinese colleagues; they observed surgeries and participated in clinical discussions. As a part of their visit they took part in the 13th educational course “External fixation and limb restoration” and made reports on management of osteomyelitis at the Russian Ilizarov Centre and new techniques of distal limb prosthetics.
Rehabilitation hospital affiliated to National Research Center for Rehabilitation will become co-founder of the International Scientific and Practical Conference “Ilizarov Readings” on June 14-16, 2018. The second day of the Conference will start with the scientific program of the Chinese hospital.

Official visit of members of State Duma to the Ilizarov Centre
A delegation from Moscow visited the Ilizarov Centre on May 29, 2018. The delegation included members of State Duma, representatives of Legal Department of the Government of the Russian Federation, Administration of the Governor of Moscow region and Ministry of Culture of RF. The official guests got familiar with the work of the Centre; they saw the most complicated cases and modern equipment for rehabilitation of patients with consequences of infantile cerebral palsy.
