By the decree of the President of the Russian Federation Vladimir Putin, the airport of Kurgan city was named after G.A. Ilizarov.
Celebrating the centenary of the famous citizen of Kurgan region and well-known orthopedic surgeon, the city voted to choose this worthy candidate, and now the airport of the city of Kurgan will be attributed his name. The name of Ilizarov is known far beyond the borders of our city, region and even country. Thousands of passengers arriving to Kurgan are patients, for whom “Ilizarov” is not a mere name, but a symbol of hope for healing and health; are professionals, scientists, doctors, for them "Ilizarov" is synonymous with discoveries, high technologies, scientific breakthrough. For the people of Kurgan, Ilizarov means pride and boundless respect.
The decree comes into force on June 11, 2021.
